Beth Bradfield (Patty Duke) is a housewife with what appears to be a stable life in an American village. One day, her 24-year-old daughter Lori (Tracey Gold), who is married to Jesse Molina (Maurice Benard) and recently gave birth to his daughter Molly (Laura and Megan Jaime), unexpectedly collapses and is hospitalized. After several tests, she is diagnosed with leukemia. Her doctor (Erick Avari) reveals to Beth that Lori is in urgent need of a donor, though her rare blood type makes finding one a difficult task.

After waking up from a coma, Alice has no memory. As she learns the horrible truths about her past self, she must fight for redemption.

Over the objections of her father (Henry B. Wathall) Doris Maynard (Barbara Kent) elopes with family chauffeur Dan Simmons (Eddie Phillips). Simmons pawns her jewels, forges her father's name on a bank note and leaves Doris a note to go home and let her father support her. A year or two later, Doris meets and falls in love with and marries Donald Thorne (Monte Blue), a crusading district attorney. Her father advises her to let the past remain buried and unrevealed. A campaign for re-election is on and Thorne has the machine organization in despair. Denman (Dewey Robinson), the machine head, is desperate and gets hold of Manners (William V. Mong), a former butler in Thorne's home who had been fired by Doris for petty theft. Manners agrees to plant some manufactured evidence in Thorne's home to discredit him. Manners, with Thorne out of town and the servants off, has no problem entering the Thorne residence.

Chief Superintendent Adam Dalgliesh investigates the death of Alice Liddell who ran a home for unwed mothers. One of those residents is Sally Jupp who was a witness in a drugs smuggling and murder investigation in London. Sally works at the local manor house for the Maxies and it is apparent that eldest son Stephen has more than just a passing interest in her. The night after they announce their engagement, Sally is found strangled in her bed. The question is whether her death is related to the London investigation or a completely different reason altogether. Her engagement created a good deal of ill feeling among the Maxies and several guests in the house with any one of them having a motive to kill her.

Brynhildur is excited; the 12-year-old has a good chance of getting a solo part in the choir for her class Christmas concert. If only it weren’t for Silja, who is making Brynhildur’s life difficult with her bullying. Even though Brynhildur hasn’t done a thing to provoke Silja. It’s not until she gets up the courage to talk to her father about it that Brynhildur begins to understand what’s behind Silja’s behaviour. At her father’s suggestion, Brynhildur invites the entire class to her birthday party. She sees it as a possible way to win sympathy from Silja and become friends with her. But the plan appears to fail – Silja organises a competing party!
